Getting Academic Credits
INTENSA's Spanish Language Courses and lessons have been developed to fit the demands of high schools, colleges, and universities throughout the United States and Canada for the last 20 years.
Union University, a four-year, liberal arts university located in Jackson, Tennessee, USA, offers a unique study abroad experience at the INTENSA Institute, a Spanish Language School in San José, Costa Rica.

Students working for university credits should clear their university's acceptance of credits issued by Union University at Jackson, TN. The student will receive a transcript and a certification of the number of contact hours received.
The awarding of three hours of university credit will be subject to the minimum completion of a 50-hour program (typically four hours per day for week one followed by six hours per day for week two or vice versa) and satisfactory completion of at least two of the three modules designed for each Union University course.
Union University offers the following conversation courses in Spanish for credit, which may be transferred to universities and colleges nationwide provided that approval of the study abroad program has been granted beforehand by the Department of Foreign Languages of the university to which the credit will be transferred.
Each credit consists of 16 hours of class time:
Spanish 112 (3 Hours) Elementary Spanish II
Pronunciation and fundamental grammatical structure in the language are introduced. Emphasis is placed on the development of all language skills, with particular attention to the Preterite and Imperfect. Prerequisite: Spanish 111 or its equivalent from an accredited college or university.
Spanish 211 (3 Hours) Intermediate Conversation and Grammar
Further development of language skills with the introduction of more advanced grammatical structures is emphasized such as the Preterite and Imperfect, Subjunctive, Conditional, Future, Commands, and use of pronouns.
Prerequisite: Spanish 112 or its equivalent from an accredited college or university.
Spanish 313 (3 Hours) Advanced Conversation
Advanced comprehension, oral, and written expression of the language are emphasized. Prerequisite: Spanish 211 or its equivalent from an accredited college or university.
PLEASE NOTE THAT IF YOU DO NOT ARRANGE ACADEMIC COURSE CREDITS BEFORE STARTING YOUR PROGRAM, YOU MAY NOT BE ABLE TO EARN COURSE CREDITS FROM INTENSA. WE NEED TO KNOW THE REQUIREMENTS IN ADVANCE.
